Robert Carlile

Robert Carlile, a retired Partner at KPMG LLP, joined MicroVision’s board in February 2017 and currently serves as Chair of the Board. In his 39-year career in public accounting at KPMG and Arthur Andersen, Mr. Carlile served as the lead audit partner on numerous public company engagements operating across different industries including technology, retail, transportation, bio-science, and manufacturing. He worked directly with Boards of Directors and Audit Committees of these companies on audits of financial statements and internal controls, registration statements and assistance with mergers, acquisitions and dispositions. In addition to his experience as a lead audit partner Mr. Carlile held a variety of operating leadership positions at KPMG and Arthur Andersen in the Pacific Northwest. In these roles he was responsible for establishing market strategy, fostering community relationships and accomplishing operating results. Mr. Carlile brings expertise to the board in the areas of auditing, accounting and financial reporting, internal controls, corporate governance and general organizational leadership.

Simon Biddiscombe

Simon Biddiscombe joined the MicroVision board in December 2018. Mr. Biddiscombe is Chief Executive Officer and board member at MobileIron the security backbone for the digital enterprise protecting corporate data across apps, networks, and clouds. Since October 2017 he has led the company’s overall business strategy and is responsible for MobileIron’s day-to-day-operations. Simon has over 20 years of management and financial experience. He began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where he spent nine years, including the firm’s Silicon Valley technology accounting and audit practice. He previously has served in several executive leadership roles including Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer at QLogic, Chief Financial Officer at Mindspeed Technologies, and Chief Financial Officer at Wyle Electronics. Mr. Biddiscombe holds a BA in business studies from the University of Glamorgan and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Mr. Biddiscombe brings expertise in finance, accounting, operations, business strategy and leadership.

Jeffrey Herbst

Herbst spent nearly twenty years at NVIDIA where he built and managed an ecosystem of accelerated computing applications spanning the domains of AI, data science, autonomous machines, and graphics and visualization. While there, he created the NVIDIA GPU Ventures program, overseeing more than 40 global investments and 20 acquisitions valued at over $8 billion, and led the NVIDIA Inception global startup accelerator comprised of more than 8,000 AI, data science and high-performance computing companies. He later co-founded GFT Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on investing in early-stage frontier technology companies primarily located in the U.S. and Israel. He holds a law degree from Stanford University and a bachelor's degree in computer science from Brown University.

Peter Schabert

Peter Schabert joined the MicroVision Board in June 2024. Mr. Schabert is an accomplished automotive executive with over 30 years of management experience. During his career, Mr. Schabert served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Beijing Benz Automotive and in various leadership roles at Daimler AG, including head of global powertrain production, and site manager of several Mercedes-Benz manufacturing sites serving in locations throughout Germany, China, and the U.S. Mr. Schabert is currently a management consultant advising companies in the automotive supply industry. Mr. Schabert has a mechanical engineering degree from Technische Universität Braunschweig.

Sumit Sharma

Sumit Sharma was appointed MicroVision CEO in 2020 after overseeing the company’s engineering, R&D, products, and operations functions. Prior to joining MicroVision, he held leadership roles at Google[x], Jawbone, and MicroOptical.

Jada Smith

Jada Smith joined the MicroVision Board in June 2024. Ms. Smith is an engineering, program management and strategy executive with nearly 25 years of experience in the automotive industry. Ms. Smith is currently Senior Vice President, Product Strategy & Delivery at Karma Automotive, a role she has held since December 2023. Previously, Ms. Smith served in several roles at Aptiv, including as Senior Program Director, Ford, Global Engineering Director - Software Platform, and Global Director of Program Management, Connection Systems. Prior to joining Aptiv, Ms. Smith held various engineering leadership roles at Delphi Automotive. Ms. Smith also served on the Board of Directors of the nonprofit Center for Automotive Research between 2019 and 2024. Ms. Smith has an M.B.A from Indiana University Kokomo and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology from Purdue University.

Dr. Mark Spitzer

Dr. Mark Spitzer joined the MicroVision board in June 2020. Dr. Spitzer is an experienced technology innovator with expertise in eyewear- and head-mounted systems, micro-displays, imaging optics for AR and VR, and photovoltaics. He has a strong record of inventive entrepreneurship with 70 issued US patents, over 86 publications and leadership positions with ground-breaking technology companies. His experience in technology development and management includes serving as Principal Scientist at Kopin Corporation in the early 1990s where he led DARPA-funded development of micro-displays for military head-mounted systems. In 1996 Dr. Spitzer founded the MicroOptical Corporation (eventually renamed Myvu), where as CEO he launched several industrial and consumer eyewear-based AR products. In 2012 Dr. Spitzer joined Google X as Director of Operations for Glass, and later moved to the VR team at Google where he helped build expertise in VR hardware design. He retired in 2017. Dr. Spitzer is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a Senior Member of the IEEE. In 2014 he received the Special Recognition Award from the Society for Information Display for contributions to the development of active-matrix liquid-crystal micro-displays, micro-display viewing optics, and wearable computer technology. Dr. Spitzer earned his B.A. with distinction in physics at Boston University and his Ph.D. in physics at Brown University.

Brian Turner

Brian Turner has served as a director of MicroVision since July 2006. Mr. Turner was the Chief Financial Officer of Coinstar Inc. from 2003 until June 2009. Prior to Coinstar, from 2001 to 2003, he served as Senior Vice President of Operations, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Real Networks, Inc., a digital media and technology company. Prior to Real Networks, from 1999 to 2001, Mr. Turner was employed by BSquare Corp., a software company, where he initially served as Senior Vice President of Operations, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary, before being promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer. From 1995 to 1999, Mr. Turner was Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Administration of Radisys Corp., an embedded software company. Mr. Turner’s experience also includes 13 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where he held several positions including Director, Corporate Finance. Mr. Turner is lead director at Symmetra Mutual Fund.
