Microvision Features Pre-Production Handheld Accessory Pico Projector and its PicoP Display Engine at CES
Company Also Introduces PicoP Evaluation Kit to Help Enable New Applications
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today at the International Consumer Electronics Show - CES - Microvision (NASDAQ:MVIS) will demonstrate a pre-production ultra-miniature plug-and-play accessory pico projector, code named SHOW WX(TM), and the new PicoHUD vehicle display. Additionally, Microvision will introduce the PicoP (R) Evaluation Kit (PEK) to enable a wide variety of consumer, industrial, automotive, medical and military applications.
"SHOW WX is a major milestone on the transition path to product launch of our first PicoP enabled consumer product later in 2009," said Alexander Tokman, President and CEO of Microvision. "We believe that the accessory pico projector is just the beginning for the PicoP display engine which could be deployed in a diverse range of applications. For this reason, we are providing PEKs to help prospective customers cultivate new ideas and products."
PicoP Powered Ultra-Small, Slim and Vibrant Consumer Laser Projector
Introduced earlier this week at Macworld in San Francisco, Microvision is demonstrating a pre-production consumer accessory laser pico projector which combines ultra-thin pocket-sized convenience with the power to project large DVD-resolution images.
SHOW WX uses Microvision's PicoP display engine technology to deliver stunningly colorful, bright, vivid and detailed images. The patented display engine technology requires no projection lenses or focus adjustment. As a result, SHOW WX images are always in focus, regardless of projection distance, producing widescreen images as small as 6 inches to as large as 100 inches across.
The production version of SHOW WX is planned to be a simple plug-n-play pico projector for people on-the-go who want to spontaneously view mobile TV, movies, photos, presentations and more. Users can take the pocket-sized projector anywhere, plug it into their portable media players, mobile phones, notebooks and other mobile media devices with TV-Out or VGA functionality and share a big screen experience with friends, family or business associates.
Consumers interested in receiving more information about the availability of SHOW WX are invited to join the VIP Club, www.microvision.com/showwx
PicoP Evaluation Kit
Available now to qualified customers, PEK is an evaluation 'tool' that allows customers to explore how Microvision's proprietary laser scanning technology can enable their own innovative product applications.
"As a leader in ultra-miniature laser scanning technology we want to offer the self-contained PEK to a diverse group of consumer electronics companies, specialist and vertical markets who can quickly evaluate whether Microvision's technology can satisfy their unique product needs," stated Ian Brown, Microvision Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
The PEK package is less than 10 mm thick and is equipped with both digital and analogue interfaces, offering customers significant flexibility for their research and product design ideas. Although extremely small, the PEK delivers wide color gamut, infinite focus and wide projection angles. These are all important performance features unique to Microvision's PicoP display engine. Potential applications for the PEK could include evaluation for future consumer electronics devices, automotive and aerospace applications, medical diagnostic equipment, and industrial 3D modeling applications, non-contact precision measurement and wearable display innovations.
Details and customer inquires about the PEK are available at www.microvision.com/PEK.
PicoHUD(TM): Full-Color Head-Up Display For Vehicles
Powered by the PicoP display engine, Microvision's PicoHUD is significantly smaller and brighter and has higher contrast compared to traditional HUD technologies available today. Microvision has designed this demonstrator to showcase the capabilities of the PicoP display engine for potential use in automobiles, specialty vehicles, trucks, busses and motor coaches.
"In the United States alone there are more than 6 million annual vehicle collisions that can be attributed to driver distraction," stated Brown. "Today drivers have to take their eyes off the road to look at the center console and get relevant information. Head-up displays increase eyes-on-the road time, greatly improving response to unanticipated road conditions."
The SHOW WX, PEK and PicoHUD will be demonstrated privately as well as at the Advanced Displays Tech Zone, South Hall 1, Booth Number 21619.
